The hidden dangers of taking your dog on the beach this summer – however much they’d like to feel the sand between their toes……

Vet Dr Rebecca MacMillan, along with TrustedHousesitters, are warning owners about the hidden hazards your beloved hound could face on the beach. While your dog might find discarded barbecue embers irresistible (no accounting for taste) and all part of a fun day, they could prove fatal for your furry friend, for example.

And other hazards? Dr MacMillan advises owners to be aware of large holes in the sand which could be a trip hazard for dogs chasing toys; saltwater (it can dehydrate them); jellyfish (in case they’re stung) and strong currents and waves. Also, be aware of potential heatstroke – certain breeds are more susceptible.

And consider choosing a dog-friendly beach, advises TrustedHousesitters.
